August 17,2023: Minister for municipal administration & urban development K.T.Rama Rao announced that the distribution of the 2 BHK units under the Telangana government’s ‘Dignity Housing’ scheme will begin in a week. Verification of the beneficiaries are almost complete and the houses will be soon given to the valid beneficiaries.
This is following the announcement made by the Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s while addressing the people of the state on Independence Day.
Of the total 1 lakh units, 75,000 units have been constructed and are ready. Around 4,500 units have already been handed to the beneficiaries at the sites of in-situ construction in place of existing slums. The remaining units will be constructed in phases and handed over to beneficiaries.
July 20, 2023: The Telangana government will start the allotment of more than 65,000-2BHK housing units under the Dignity Housing Scheme in the first week of August, announced K T Rama Rao, minister for municipal administration and urban development, Telangana, in a review meeting that was held on July 19, 2023.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), in coordination with the revenue department has identified the beneficiaries for this scheme and a plan for the allotment of these units has been prepared. The GHMC will roll out the handover in six phases which will go till the third week of October 2023.
Construction of around 1 lakh 2BHK housing units for the poor was undertaken by the GHMC in and around the city, out of which, majority units have been constructed. The housing units that are in the final stages of construction will also be part of the allotment.
Media reports mention that around 5 lakh urban poor have applied for allotment of 2BHK housing units.
