Billionaire industrialist Gautam Adani has become the world’s third richest person, shows the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Adani, who has an estimated worth of $137.4 billion, is the first Asian to break into the top-3 of the coveted index.
With his fortune of over $251 billion Elon Musk is placed at the top of the index while Amazon’s Jezz Bezos hold the second spot with wealth exceeding $153 billion.
A college dropout who today owns a business conglomerate that has interest from coal to ports, Adani, 60, overtook billionaire Reliance Industries chairmen Mukesh Ambani as the richest Asian in February this year. By April, he became a centibillionaire and surpassed Microsoft’s Bill Gates as the world’s fourth-richest person in July, 2022.
Mukesh Ambani is now placed at the 11th position at the billionaire index while Bill Gates holds the 5th spot.
Interestingly, Gautam Adani, Mukesh Ambani and Charles Koch (placed at No 15) are the only businessmen among the top-15 who have seen their wealth grow during the year. Adani added $60.9 billion to his fortune in the past one year, Koch $6.48 billion and Ambani $1.96 billion.
With his business interests spanning infrastructure, commodities, power generation and transmission and real estate, Adani owns 6 listed companies in India, including Adani Enterprises, Adani Green Energy and Adani Power.
